The 7th Grade "A" Basketball team beat Kahler last night 40 to 31. Evan Collins and Jaysean King led the defense with multiple steals. Ja'Lon Bradford and Jaylen Johnson led the offense by scoring inside out outside. Their overall record is now 5-1.

Call-Out Meeting for Academic Teams

Are you interested in the Myths of Mesopotamia? Would you like to read "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" or watch "Doctor Strange?" How about math: trapezoids, two-dimensional figures, ream numbers, and even Backgammon? Would you be interested in the science of Mesopotamia: The agriculture, streams and rivers, and astronomy or the social studies and geography of Ancient Egypt and the Nile Valley along with Egyptian Culture?
Then we have the teams for you! The 2019 Academic Teams for Science, Social Studies, Math and English will have a call-out (sign-up) meeting tomorrow, Friday, November 16th at 7:00 a.m. in C1 for any sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students who are interested in being a part of a dynamic group. Most teams will begin meeting soon, however, the competitions are not until 2019. So come and get information and handouts for one, or all, of these dynamic academic teams.





November 14th
Unfortunately, due to the snowy and icy conditions on sidewalks and trails, running club will be cancelled for this afternoon. We will plan to resume running club on Monday of next week if conditions improve. Please listen to the announcements.

A HUGE Congratulations to Kimberly Tran for being accepted into the first ever Junior All-State Orchestra!! Kimberly will be performing with the All-State Orchestra as a part of the IMEA music conference in Fort Wayne in January! Way to represent Willowcreek!!

Congratulations to all WMS students who participated in the All-Region Honor Orchestra in Goshen, Indiana this past Saturday. The following students performed with this advanced group: Morgan Malaski, Abby Whited, Chloe Szumanski, Xiuxiu Wang, Makena Kretz, Sienna Mietzner, Kaitlyn Shields, Leylany Jimenez, Gohan Cerros, Kimberly Tran, and Abby Ringer. The students rehearsed and practices all day and performed a wonderful concert in the evening at Goshen Middle School! Congratulations on all of your hard work and your wonderful performance! Miss Bouma is so proud of you!

A big shout out to Ivan Trujillo and Ethan Miller who did such a great job playing Taps at the Veterans Day Convocation.

The 7th grade A team defeated Crown Point Wheeler last night 33 to 31 to start off Conference play. They got dominate play inside from Brian Norris and Ja;Lon Bradford. Each scored in double digits. Jaelyn Johnson, Isaiah Patterson, and Jaysean King controlled the ball for the offense and played great defense.

The 7th Grade B team lost a close game 26 to 27. Ajay Allen, Anthony Aloonzo, and Jarrett Smith each put in multiple baskets to help the Braves. Joe Miszewski and Evan Collins also scored.

Running club will resume today after school. Participants should meet down in the gym lobby. Due to the cold temperatures, any students who is not prepared with proper clothing for the weather will not be able to run. Participants must have at least long pants and long-sleeve clothing to participate. Running club will end promptly at 4:00, so make sure rides are here at that time.

The 7th Grade Basketball team beat Lake Station 38-18 yesterday. All 16 players contributed in the win. Jaysean King's high energy defense led to many steals which helped start the scoring. Isaiah Patterson showed great unselfishness with some awesome passing in the paint to create easy baskets for the Braves. They are back in action today at Highland Middle School for game 3 of 5 this week!





November7th
The 8th grade boys basketball team won their opening game last night against Whiting. All 15 boys played in the game and contributed in some way. Leading the way for the Braves were Aiden Barney who had 5 points, Treston Dusendang had 4 points and many rebounds. Oscar Kapinos dropped in a big three pointer in the 4th quarter to put the Braves up for good. Nice start boys.

The 7th grade Willowcreek Braves basketball team started off their season with a 28-11 win over Whiting. On offense, Joe Miszewski, Jonte Starks and Evan Collins each connected on a three pointer. Anthony Alonzo, Jaysean King, Brian Norris, and Jaelyn Johnson also scored for the Braves. Brian Warner, Matteo Nolasco and Cantrell Brooks wach had an assist. While Isaiah Patterson, Jarret Smith, Ka'Brein Banks, and Ja'Lon Bradford led the defense with many steals and blocks. They are back in action tonight at Willowcreek against Lake Station.

The holidays are right around the corner, and that means many families are in need. Willowcreek, you have an easy opportunity to help the less fortunate by participating in the Student Council sponsored Naked Turkey fund raiser. Just a $1.00 donation during your lunch hour gives you the chance to put a feather on our naked turkey. All proceeds will go toward buying Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings for our needy families.
Feathers are available during all lunch periods today through November 15th.

This is a big weekend for PPW!!! Our Mitey Mite and our PeeWee football teams will be playing for the State Championship title on Saturday! THen on Sunday our Cheer and Dance teams (coming off amazing wins last weekend at Districts) will be competing at Regionals for the chance to go to Nationals in Florida once again! Come out and Support all these amazing kids and watch them do what they love!
The PeeWee team plays in LaPorte at Kiwanis field at 7pm. (PPW Pee Wee Football 2018 on FB) The Cheer and Dance teams compete on Sunday in Dekalb IL at the NIU Convocation Center. Grab your Portage Gear, and let's show everyone what Portage Pride really is.

The 7th Grade "A" Lady Braves Volleyball Team lost to Chesterton last night in two games. Highlights of the games included Lauren Zeman serving ten points in a row for strong comeback effort in the second game and Kianah King and Emma Ortiz with multiple plays and kills at the net. Assisting these plays were Lauren Zeman and Ava Melendez. The girls next game is tonight against Kesling in LaPorte.
Wrestling and 7th and 8th grade boys basketball will begin next month. Get your physicals turned into the main office. If you are interested in participating or trying out for these teams you need to have an updated physical on file. Remember, any physical turned in last year will not be valid for this year. See Mr. Johnson if you have any questions.
The Eagles team would like to congratulate Jason Looney for being the first student to complete the 40 Book Challenge. Way to go, Jason!
