Welcome to Willowcreek! It is an incredible honor to serve as your principal as we begin this new chapter for our students, our families, and our community.
This year represents something special. Willowcreek brings together students, families, and staff from across our Portage community to create one school, one family, and one shared vision for success. While the circumstances surrounding the beginning of our school year have certainly tested our patience and resilience, they have also reminded us of something important: we are Braves, and Braves take care of one another.
At Willowcreek, our expectations are high because our students are capable of great things! We will work every day to create a school where students feel safe, respected, challenged, supported, and valued.
Our BRAVES Values will guide us:
B. — Bold ~ Be courageous enough to try, learn, speak up, and grow.
R. — Respectful ~ Treat yourself, others, and our school with dignity and kindness.
A. — Accountable ~ Take responsibility for your choices, your learning, and your actions.
V. — Valuable ~ Recognize that you matter and that you have something important to contribute.
E. — Engaged ~ Be present, participate, ask questions, and take ownership of your education.
S. — Successful ~ Set goals, persevere through challenges, and strive to be your very best.
These expectations are more than words on a wall. They are the culture we are building together.
We will be intentional about teaching students how to be successful—not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. We will emphasize strong relationships, reading and writing across every classroom, perseverance, responsibility, attendance, and a genuine love of learning. We will celebrate growth, encourage students to learn from mistakes, and never stop believing in what they can become.
But a successful school cannot be built by educators alone.
We need our families and community beside us. We ask you to talk with your child about our BRAVES expectations, encourage regular attendance and punctuality, communicate with us when your child needs support, and celebrate their successes. When school and home work together, our students benefit.
To our students: this is your school. Take pride in it. Take care of it. Take care of one another. Be the person who makes Willowcreek a better place simply by being here. Your voice matters, your choices matter, and you matter.
To our families: thank you for trusting us with your children. We know that the start of this school year has been anything but ordinary. Your patience, flexibility, and support have meant so much.
And to our community: thank you for believing in Portage students and in the future of Willowcreek. We are excited to build something extraordinary together.
There will be challenges. There will be mistakes. There will be days when things don't go exactly as planned. But every day, we will show up, support one another, and move forward.
This is a new beginning. This is our opportunity. This is Willowcreek.
And I could not be more excited to see what we accomplish together.
Be Bold. Be Respectful. Be Accountable. Know You Are Valuable. Be Engaged. Be Successful.
Be BRAVES, Willowcreek!
With great pride,
Principal Caballero
